Torch Relay to Utopia (2010
PIA State Conference)Did
you attend the closing session of last year's PIA QLD State conference? The
Sunshine Coast was announced as this year's host of the 2010 PIA QLD State
Planning Conference 10-12 November 2010. The Greek goddess accepted the honour
by lighting her torch and commencing the relay to the Hyatt, Coolum (Utopia).

The
PIA torch is taking on a new light, its journey from the 2009 Brisbane
conference has begun and it will continue around the regions of Queensland
culminating in its arrival at the Sunshine Coast to open the 2010 PIA QLD State Planning Conference. Each
month a photo will be forwarded to map its journey across the state. Make sure
you keep track of its progress and let the journey inspire you to join us at
the 2010 PIA QLD State conference,
dare we say, in Utopia?’
‘Transcending
the ages, the Olympic torch has bared light on many past utopian visions.
Utopia, a place or state of ideal perfection, from the Greek meaning either
‘a good place’ or ‘no place’. Have the ideals of utopia
changed over time? Is it a state we can achieve or is it a place of
non-existence? Has it a place in modern times, if so, can we plan utopian
outcomes?
Deliberately
provocative, the theme of ‘Utopia’ refers not only to the setting
and venue of the next 2010 PIA QLD
State Planning Conference at the
Hyatt Coolum (which could well be considered utopian) but also to the
aspirations of planners and related practitioners in seeking to find, create or
even just visit utopia.
Get
in early and start planning to attend your conference at the Hyatt Regency
Coolum 10-12th November 2010. All our keynote speakers are locked in –
there’s a great line-up this year. The Program &
Registation Forms are now available. Partners and children are also catered
for at this conference – to find out more got to the Camp Hyatt
Children’s program.

the Preferred Futures Institute and the Preferred Futures Group and also chairs
the Sustainable Prosperity Foundation.

track gold medalist.
